Psychotherapy

There is not necessarily a clear distinction between the terms 'counselling' and 'psychotherapy' but here, I use 'psychotherapy' to mean longer-term, exploratory work, touching on issues that may have origins in childhood, identifying and examining them for clues to present attitudes, beliefs and behaviours.

The strategies we use as children to make sense of the incomprehensible and that protect us from danger can recur as patterns in later life. Part of this process is to become aware of those patterns through replaying them in the safety of the therapeutic relationship.
