Counselling

There is not necessarily a clear distinction between the terms 'counselling' and 'psychotherapy' but here, I use 'counselling' to mean shorter, goal specific work, often triggered by a recent event such as a bereavement, redundancy or divorce.

I will not be offering advice. Rather, I believe that you have the answers and that my role is to help you to bring them to light.

In my counselling work, I use both Transactional Analysis (TA) and Person Centred Counselling. In my experience, counselling will work best where the counsellor is able to:

  • show empathy
  • have unconditional regard for the client
  • be congruent - i.e. feel the same way about the client on the inside and the outside
